" In this issue of Molecular Cell, Caveney et al. explore the principles that drive IL-5 and βc family cytokine signaling and show that the main complex driving cellular signaling is hexameric—impacting therapeutic development. The cover artwork depicts the resolved signaling mechanism, with fire spirits representing IL-5Rα and βc. The hexameric signaling complex is “ignited” by IL-5, initiating signaling, as represented by lava. Activation of the receptor complex in eosinophils leads to degranulation—an eruption of cytotoxic granule proteins, as represented by spewed volcanic rocks."
